Dublin Bass Mark

#1 Post by Eoghan »

A good mate of mine arrived at a Dublin Bass mark this morning, approx 9am. Another angler was leaving the venue at the same time with a bag of approx 7 Bass from around 4Ib up.

If it was you and are reading this I hope ye choke on em...!

If I had been with him ye wouldnt have got far with them.

Sorry all, had to get it off my chest...!

A lot of people asking me roughly where the mark was. Its a north Dublin mark and yes its people like this who ruin it for the rest of us.

Its the reason I wont post a mark on the board but will PM to people I know etc...

This is a disgrace, but it is particulary sad to hear this is happening in Dublin where stocks are so low.
Whats the best strategy for dealing with these people when encountered?
Id be inclined to follow them to their car and take the reg and report it, (assuming I could control my temper :!: ) but a lot of places dont have mobile phone reception.
I reckon its probably a good idea to take reg numbers of cars when you are parking.

Disgraceful behaviour

I say we get a gang of us up to the mark and lets see if he returns :?: :?: :?:

It'd be a handy way for me to find out your mark as well eoghan  , I've fished a good bit around dublin, and god knows I've not caught 7 bass this year..... let alone in the one session

Guaranteed he wouldnt be taking more than 2 fish if I was around though.....I'd tell the Gardia I used my filliting knife in self defense  :!:

Its a cracking mark and we rarely see people fishing it so this was a surprise. Even when they do they are fishing it wrong and with the wrong bait so they blank. We have discovered that the bass at this mark take one bait and one bait only.

It can hold some cracking Bass but not for long if this kinda thing keeps up. We havnt had a double figure from it yet but some very close contenders. Every Bass we have ever caught there was returned.

I was speaking to my mate since who said that he was landing one as he arrived which was thrown into the bag without being propperly dispatched.

Real Pity Eoghan.... If you PM myself or Sean Ivory with the mark we can ask the ERFB to keep a very close Eye on it.

does anyone know what can be done within the law to end this sort of abuse Ihad the same problem down at poolbeg many a time .Other than getting yourself into troubleand bringing yourself down to the level of these scumbags. If they break the bass laws god knows what else they would stoop to .so fellows be careful.

Unfortunately I think you'd be fairly safe risking a fine. I've never been approached by a fisheries officer while I've been fishing for bass. Ever. In around 20 years of bass fishing.

Saying that, I would personally return the fish. It's a scaled down version of the commercial quota/by-catch problem.

It can be hard enough to catch bass around Dublin at the best of times and this kind of thing isn't helping, disgraceful.
