People: Me.

Duration: ~20.30-23.00

Tide: HW ~ 19.00 (I think) & choppy

Weather: Dry ( ), mild and moderate north-westerly

Bait: lug, sandeel, mackerel

Rigs: 3-hook flapper, pulley, 1-up.

Results: 3 small Flounder (~20, 24, & 29cm)

Report:

Decided to stop off at Lettergesh for a few hours on the way home – had gear and bait in the car in case the opportunity presented itself as I knew I’d be in the vicinity  . On the road down to the beach, I noticed lots of flowers placed at the side of the road and immediately thought of the two Frenchmen who lost their lives the previous Monday. Wasn’t sure if this was the spot.

Feeling in a bit of a somber mood, setup at the top of the beach. The >5m tide didn’t allow anything else, although it had started to drop. Fired a pulley out at distance and lobbed a 3-hook flapper to about 30yds. Started chatting to a guy who holidays in the area regularly and told me of all the people he has seen fishing this area and has never seen any fish taken. Just then I pulled in the flapper to change the bait and found a small ~20cm flounder nibbling on the sandeel :D . Lip-hooked only, it was quickly released to fight another day. Not sure if the holiday-maker was surprised by the fact that there were fish here or that I released it :? .

Wasn’t long before he brought up the tragedy that happened behind us and confirmed this was indeed where the two Frenchmen were drowned when their car overturned into 3 feet of water.

Fished on for another 2 hours, only managing to take 2 more small flounder, 29 and 24cm, the latter coming on my last cast and nothing touching my bait at distance.

Packed-up and headed for home, with life very much in perspective.

on that beach 29cm is a decent flounder - you clearly havent spent enough days in competition circumstances pulling out 13 and 17 and 19 cm flounder

19cm turbot are a speciality there

didnt hear about those drownings - how did they die in 3 foot of water?

Brian, the stream was in flood and they appear to have slid down the bank and rolled the car over into the water - upside down, the car filled with water and they drowned before locals could pull them free. The 2 women in the back seat survived...
Hopefully now the council will do something about the road...

Oh and yeah, 29cm flounder not too bad for Lettergesh!
Its called fishing, not catching. If it was called catching it wouldn't be fishing!

Nice wee session martin, last time i fished that with steve nothing touched our distance baits either but we did manage to get a good few flounder and tea bag sized turbot. I'm assured there are ray at distance waders probably required!! I recall rampent wreckfish clocking up 32 fish there in a few hours not sure if there was ray included in that haul.
