advice on multipliers please

#1 Post by petekd »

Need to invest in a new multiplier for beach and rock fishing, need something that is fairly forgiving and doesnt involve too much in the way of tuning as my casting leaves a lot to be desired! Torn between Penn 525 mag, Abu 6500ct or a Daiwa Sl20sh or Sl30sh. Advice please!

Ive asked this question a few different times. If you search past topics on this website youll get lots of info. I think the 525 supermag is probably the best out there + im going to invest in in one shortly.

If your going to be doing a lot of rock fishing, ie over foul ground, the diawa slosh would be the one. It has an excellent retrive rate, therefore fulling the rig up in the water, and avoiding snags.

I've never used the others, so I couldn't say I'm afraid.

Cheers

I use the Penn 525 super mag over clean ground, lovely reel ,casts like a dream, and I use the Daiwa Sl30sh over rough ground, really solid piece of kit ,and as dillon says the retrieve rate is excellent .Although I find I get a lot more birds nests with the Daiwa .

Cheers lads, went for the Daiwa Sl30sh which I picked up for 130 euro, manged to birdsnest it twice on the first run out. (used it straight from the box) Opened it up and discovered there were no brake blocks in it, popped in the ones supplied which i thought were spares and had another crack, superb! The power and rate of retrieve in it are nothing short of excellent, winched in a double shot of doggies from whitestrand, garretstown, cork with the minimum of fuss. Weather permitting Im gonna give it a thorough test at the Bridges of Ross on sunday.
