Wicklow 7-08-08
People: Myself, Corbyeire, Al, M.b.3
Duration: 20.30-01.15
Tide: Couldnt work it out...in, out, in, out?????
Weather: Fine, one small shower
Bait: Rag, Mack, Squid, Sandeel
Rigs: 3 hook flappers, 3 hook clip downs, pulleys, loop rigs
Results: Plaice, Blonde Ray, Spotted Ray, Huss, Common Smoothhound, Tope, Dogs, Dabs, Whiting
Report: First time fishing with both Al and Mark for sometime, so was looking forward to a bit of different company for a change (no disrespect intended Brian
Arrived to the mark to find it flat calm, so there was high hopes of a few ray, shame we had no crab as I'm sure the smoothies would have been around aswell.
Fishing was quite slow early on, but I got a plaice on my first cast, only a small one mind you, but nice all the same.
Dabs and whiting were coming in reasonably regularly, but suprisingly the dogs took a while to come on the feed.
Some of the whiting were tiny, but some a decent size also.
Then Mark struck with a treble to behold......A spotted ray, a small tope and a whiting.
He also had a Huss.
This was only the 2nd ever ray I have seen caught (my 1st being my own thornie on the same beach a few months back), and it was nice to see a different species, very different to the thornie.
The 1st tope I ever saw aswell so that was a bonus.
Al also got his 1st ever ray, so I'm made up for him. A bit if identification from Mark and we settled on it being a Blonde Ray.
I have now seen Al catch his 1st Bass and his 1st Ray....and I've only fished with him 3 times......I must be a lucky omen for him
Regular dogs and whiting from there on in, and another small tope for the session, this time to Al.
Brian had many dogs and whiting, too many to count.
I had plenty of dogs, whiting, a dab, a plaice and a (small) common smoothie
All in all a very pleasant nights fishing, the weather was good, good company, and a few new species for me to see.
I must say, given the very poor quality of the rag (it was only bought this afternoon), the results were not too bad.....I have since complained to the well known angling shop (northside of Dublin), and he wasnt interested in sorting it out, ah well his loss, I shall not spend another cent in his shop from here on in.....I'll make the trip to Viking instead
The lads I'm sure will had any comments and maybe a few pic's
