People:myself and mc
Duration:11pm - 5:30am
Tide: high at 4am(ish)
Weather:southerly winds(from behind) and spells of rain
Bait:fresh lugworm, peelers, softies
Rigs:single hook rigs
Results: 1 BASS, a few flounder
Report: with MC having a family holiday up in Mayo it was arranged to have a session for those bars of silver(the ones i seem to catch a lot of lately).
was picked up around 8:30 and headed for a beach to dig a few lug for the session, during this we were joined by 3 Italian kids (4 - 7yrs old i'm guessing) so we had a few extra hands collecting the worms (free child labour, its great) within no time at all we had what i reckon was near a couple of hundred ( i still have a few left so some lads may get a txt soon )
back on the road again and off to the other side of the bay.. just arrived as a heavy shower just stopped.. on with waders and floatie jacket and a nice little walk to the beach..
set up near the the high water mark and then rods tripod and bait were carried to the waters edge.. nice little walk that was.. few hundred yrds give or take.. even thought the wind was coming from behind there was a nice little surf running.. took the first cast out and i went for a quick mosey into the rocks to see if i could get some fresh peelers.. there was loads of small ones 3 to a hook sized ones so i only managed one peeer but also managed to get a nice sized softie..
back to rods to move everything back a few yrds (shallow beach means a lot of walking back at regular intervals) a few small taps between both rods all along meant flatties were about, then i got a nice little tap.. gave a little strike but didnt seem to connect with anything, went to reel in then there seemed to be a bit of resistance which soon ended up taking line on me, tightened the drag a bit more and with a good bend in the tip of the rod ensured it wasnt a flattie... a bass of 50 cm slid up onto the sand.. a good start to what seemed was going to be a good session..
a quick photo session and back to fishing..
seeing as we were only using the one tripod between us i set mc up on the side i was to give him chance to catch a bar of silver.. with directions on where to cast the game was on.. now i was casting away from the sweet spot to give mc the chance i managed to pluck out a nice flounder..
all the time the tide was coming in and within no time at all we were near where the bags where(also where the beach began to incline up steeply)..
another little tap to my rod and another flattie arrived..
the water was starting to fill and there was some depth close now (2yrds out and 4 foot of water) the bites stopped and it wasnt looking good.. with a few missed bites.. and the sky was getting brighter..
what looked like a a good night session turned out to be a few fish (all to me) ..
hopefully next time a bar of silver might appear for the less fortunate..
