i have a navman S30,seems to have pretty good coverage down south.i`ve used it all round baltimore to youghal, also dungarvan to waterford and st mullins in carlow.the only roads didn`t show up were parts of the new motorway between dublin and cork.i`ll have to update it soon.
i usually have it switched on when im going somewhere new but i still like to look at maps so i know where im going anyway, the satnav is just incase i make a balls and take a wrong turn.which happens quite alot  they are a great piece of kit and can make long trips easier when you`ve never been there before.
think you can buy the S30 for about £80 and comes with window mount and car charger(some of the garmin satnav`s dont and you have to buy them separate :? )

I use the Nuvi and it's always on load to the other half. great unit. Pixmania seem to be doing excellent deals at the moment. Make sure the maps are NT10.

I Use the Nuvi 310 (has bluetooth) - bought it from a company in UK - they do a refurbished line (you cannot tell the difference and have same warranty as new ) for a much lower price - am at work now and I cant remember the website address now so will have to check it at home pc.

best prices out there as i really trawled around for the best deal and this was it...
