East Cork - 23rd July 2008

#1 Post by RockHunter »

People: Me

Duration: 7.30 - 11.30 pm

Tide: HW at 9.45

Weather: Strong southwesterly, overcast, dry

Bait: Frozen black lug, razor, sandeel

Rigs: Two hook flapper (size 1/0 and 1), three hook flapper (size 1/0 and 3/0), 3/0 pennel

Results: 1 three bearded rockling, 1 baby conger, 1 dogfish

Report: I returned to the mark I fished the previous night but the weather had changed - quite a strong southwesterly was blowing which seemed to increase later in the evening and the sea was very choppy - I had an attempt at plugging but the wind was blowing the plugs back towards the shore. The water was also quite coloured compared to the previous night so I decided to just concentrate on bait fishing.

I had quite a few missed bites until after dark - then got a rockling - this was much bigger than the shore rockling I usually catch and had a different colouration - I am fairly sure that it is a three beared rockling - a new species for me :D :D :D Shortly after that I got a baby conger.

Then had to wait a long time for the next fish - I had a lot of missed bites and got snagged a lot. Close to 11.30 I decided to pack up, dismantled the first rod and was about to reel in the second when I got a bite - a dogfish - taken on sandeel on the 3/0 pennel.

Thanks Dave,
Yes it was a fine size for a rockling. That mark looks to have good potential - I will have give it another bash soon with a broader range of bait.

Thats a great rockling, welldone.
