16/07/08 Newcastle Co.Down

#1 Post by marshpike »

People: Moi

Duration: 3.5hrs

Species: 2 Poor cod, 1 cod, 1 Corkwing Wrasse, 2 Ballan Wrasse, 1 three bearded rockling

Weight: various

Weather: Northerly wind blowing, overcast

Method: Two hook flapper

Bait: Lug

Comments: Fancied adding to my species hunt today so I decided to hit the bloody bridge in Newcastle. The start of the session was like something out of a horror book, firstly I hadn't any fine wire hooks which I use to bend out of any snags this resulted in me losing 4 rigs on the first four casts, even though I got a bite every cast two hours passed and I hadn't a fish landed, to top it off the rest blew over and my good 7HT Turbo casing got damaged and the rod scrapped.

I was just about to go home when I decided to give it one more try, reeling in my second rod and making a two hook flapper with a rotten bottom I managed to squeeze out a three bearded rockilng, not huge but species 21 on the hunt. Dropping down to one rod made all the difference and a variety of fish followed and no more rigs lost.

It just goes to show that if you put your mind to it when things aren't going so well you might just salvage the session, all in all a good short session.

Haven't tried for them yet, I'm off work the week after next and have planned to go fishing (surprise surprise), hopefully I'll get the chance around then.
