Report:
Had been promising to bring a few lads out from work as they were genuinley interested in how I got on in comps and what fish i caught, brought them to rock mark to pick up a few dogs and hopefully a few bonus species which we got.
After a little casting tuition they were able to hit 40 odd yards, distance not really the key here so i was happy enough, happier still when Mark (who'd never caught a fish in his life) hooked & landed a small tope, delighted :D
Next up had to get the other boys a fish, Out went a lug & half a crab and soon the dogs were knocking about, so with everyone off the mark i decided it was about time i did a bit of fishing. Plenty of dogs later I was apologising to the lads we hadn't got anything a bit more exciting but they were loving every minute. They couldn't understand how time was flying by so quickly and they were having a ball, filling their boots with dogs and eels.
Then finally the excitment, I had a cracking run on my rod at distance, and as soon as i struck i told the lads, youre in for a new species here, as clearly a good hound was running left and right, diving to stay deep and giving a great account of himself, I went in to tail him and the three of them were amazed that these fish live in our waters. Put him in the weigh bag and the scales went around to 8lbs, less half pound for the bag and it was a 7.5lb specimen, my second this year 8)
Shortly after I belted two baits out far for the lads and told them to keep an eye as we could have a pack on the move, no sooner had i said it than the tripod was pulled over and the rod was going seawards, picked up the rod and missed a good fish, ten minutes later exactly the same, I can only imagine what the other 2 fish were like. Anyway apparently Mark called over to his grandad the next morning and took all his old fishing gear, I've been pestered all week in work to go again....if only they experienced the hours of boredom on a January evening in Greystones!!!!
