Ray fishing

#1 Post by cormology »

Hi i'm just looking for information on ray fishing on the east/south coast.
I'm interested in targeting this species as i never got one from the shore.
Any info on location, time of year, baits, rigs would be much appreciated.

don't know about east/south coast but I have had a lot of ray in clifden using 3 hook mackerel feathers you could use a 3 Hook Flapper rig baited with frozen mackerel,I find frozen better then fresh,I fish from rocks casting into clean sandy ground with maybe 3 or 4 meters of water on low tide,I find its better when the tide is moving in or out never seem to get anything between 1hr before high tide or 1 hr after high tide, this web page will give you a idea of the best time for ray http://www.cfb.ie/fishing_in_ireland/sea/sseaons.htm hope this might help
