New reel

hi there,
Im getting a Mike Ladle11' 2pce Surespin Mk11 from veals. As im new to fishing any advice on what type of reel i need. I want to get into spinning for bass and pollock, only about 80euro to spend :cry: any recommendations.

You could do a lot worse than an Okuma, try the Interceptor 30. Have change too from your 80 yoyos.

cant go wrong with a shimano. go for a 4000 size, the nexave and catana models are cheap enough and are of good build. the catana can be got for around 40 euros and the nexave about 70. there are better shimano models like the stradic and stratos they are well over the 100e mark. hope this helps . aswell going for the one u can afford with being new to the spinning u can always upgrade at a later date 8)

You should also be able to get a Shimano Exage for that budget and its a grand little reel, but if you can stretch the budget at all I'd highly recommend the Shimano Stradic. Either way you wont go far wrong with a Shimano. I think you should also consider loading the reel with braid, 20 - 30lb Powerpro would be my preference, you wont regret it. Btw good choice on the rod, I've the same one myself. :wink:

thanks for all the help on this. I was looking at the stradic.one is stradic 4000 GTM-RB the other one is the 5000 FB, apart from the 5000 being double the price is there much difference between them.

I have the same rod - I use a Shimano Twinpower 4000 with it - very good. :D

Personally I'd go for the 4000 size reel for that rod.

I would also go front drag, rather than rear. I was a big fan of rear drag for spinning until I changed to front at the beginning of the year. Front drag seems smoother and will last longer.

Someone told me very good things about Shimano's new (2008 model) Technium 4000 FB. This person tests a lot of spinning reels and puts them through their paces so I'd trust their opinion. A little bit more than you wanted to spend, but if you have a night in front of the telly and make the investment, you'll be glad of it.

Thanks for the advice on this. Teacher I like the look of the Technium 4000 FB. Pardon my ignorance on this :oops: I was looking up few sites for best price, not much difference but i did notice that in tackle shop co uk it had the Technium 4000 FB in the course reel section. does this make a difference since all my fishing will be sea fishing?

No, that's fine. I bought a baitrunner aero from the same site, also from the coarse section. Good service too.

prefaribly i use shimano or okuma for spinning for sea fish and pike. you dont need to spend any more than about 40 euros. i got an okuma undertaker a couple of years back for £20.00 or 25-30 euros and it is peobably one of the best reels i ever had. i caught wrasse, pollack, coalies, macks, cod and pike on it. it was also good for pier, beech and match fishin.
