North wexford beach, 22/6/08

#1 Post by stevecrow74 »

People: me, saltydog and jd

Duration:19:45 - 03:30

Tide:
high around 22:00 i think

Weather: westerly wind clear skies

Bait:
lug, rag, sandeel, peeler, squid, mackerel.

Rigs:
various

Results:
bass, doggies, flounder, dab, turbot, tope, silver eel, starry smoothound

Report:

went to fish salty's favourite beach, and its now become mine too. On my first cast with a 3 hook flapper loaded with rag soon was into a bass of 33cm.. Good start for me, them nothing for a while until jd was into a turbot (his first one too) . Jd left shortly afterwards and not long after i was into another bass of 39cm. Really enjoying the session now.. And again shortly after another one of 44cm came to me, all on the 3 hook flapper.. Nothing at distance so far.. Them all hell broke loose. The peeler that was at distance took on a life of its own running from left to right and after a few minutes fight a nice 7lbs starrysmoothound appeared.. Brilliant session now.. Then salty got his first bass of the night at 46cm.. Then i managed to pluck out a flounder and a couple of doggies and even a silver eel.. Salty managed to get a dab and then my distance rig started hopping again, only to produce a nice 48cm bass.. I took down one of my beach casters and put a 3hook flapper onto my spinning rod.. Loaded it with rag and lug.. And it wasn't long before all hell broke loose again.. A good 41cm bass was to blame.. Them to top it all off salty got a nice little tope.. We stayed till half three then packed up.. A great session by me :)

only kept one bass ( the largest one )

will put up photos when i'm near a computer..

Nice to stop off for an hour on way back up to Dublin. I was getting into "just one more cast" mode!

I think there might be enough for another few weeks at least.

(Another comp like that though and I'm not so sure ...)
