bottom fishin at fenit

#2 Post by booner »

i expect i'll be proved wrong, but in my opinion fenit pier is pretty much finished as a decent bottom fishing mark except maybe for conger, we used to swear by it for lots of rays but it seems to have turned into a swimming pool!!??? apparently areas of the shannon (south) are pretty much the same, i hope someone can prove me wrong :? :?

what does 'imo' mean? also are you chattin about the south side, ie kilteery and tarbert piers, cos we used to have some fantastic sessions on them 10 to 15 years ago for ray bull huss and conger, but it just seemed to get worse from late 90's on :( :( :(

IMO= In My Opinion...

well im talking about the region in general..plenty of ray..as many conger as you want in some spots..bull huss are patchy but can still be picked up...dogfish plagues in some areas...whiting, flounder, bass, mackerel,specimen 3 bearded rockling,dab,gurnard, the very odd stinger and tope off the boat...what more do you want!!

Fenit pier has definitley gotten worse. I ve had plenty of sessions there recently and the quality of fishing there has declined alot compared to years back.

Theres alot of work gone on there over the last couple of years so it has changed a good bit. It always was hit and miss could go through brilliant patches and then be completely empty of fish. I also think the increased activity has affected it as well there are alot more boats and jet skis around I think that is scaring the fish during the day.

the new part on the right at top of the via duct seem good for dogs still though.

skate

#10 Post by booner »

i wish that was the one we caught but unfortunately ours was probably not big enough to cover the boot of a mini !! definitely a skate tho cos of the snout. they used to be fairly common(hohoho) apparently years ago. i red a bit about it in 'successful shore fishing' by anthony pearson, this book was printed 30 or 40 years ago and covers the shore in england, wales and ireland, a brilliant read( just has stories of fishin trips in it) and a bit on tackle etc.
