Gar-Pike Competition in Sweden ended with fish being dumped

#1 Post by fogelberg »

Yesterday there was a Gar-Pike competition in Malmö, Sweden.
They pulled up around 1500 G-P's and the winner pulled 92, many of the participators didn't want their fish so around a 100 kilos of G-P was dumped into the sea again.

I was there but not competing, but to see who won and to fish my self, it ended with me taking three bags of G-P, cleaning and giving away to people who wanted. gave away about 15 kilos, and took 7 kilos with me home.

Don't you hate when people pull up more than they want and just dump it?
It even ended up in the newspapers that they dumped their fish like that.

Well done, fogelberg.

Catch & Release must be the way to go to preserve stocks. If you aren't going to eat it, put it back.

Yeah, but catch & release doesn't help when the fishes are dead...
All the fish that was dumped was dead. its such a waste of natural resources.

Quite agree.
But the words Catch & Release really do mean Catch & Release ALIVE!! Its just that in English we don't always finish the sentence :)

Otherwise it would be called Catch & Dump :D
