hi ,

i heard you can get penn reels cheap in the usa . i am going there to a friend in the summer and i was wondering what good boat reels are out there at the moment ?

They are about half the price they are here. Whichever reel you decide upon I would advise buying one made in the USA as the Chinese made
Penns have had quality issues.

thanks for tip . found a website http://www.alltackle.com/penn_fishing_reel.htm with the range of products just trying to narrow it down and then shop around for the cheapest american made one and post it to my friend.

I have a Penn Senator level wind about 4 years now (don't know if they still do this model) and I found that is really good value for the money. It still working perfectly and is well able to take standard abuse. I picked it up in Sears while in the states as I hadn't got a lot of time to travel to dedicated tackle stores, but it was still very good value at the time.
