People:me

Duration:1300-1900

Tide:hw @ 1800

Weather:bright sunshine, 22mph sw

Bait:fresh and frozen mack, fresh and frozen squid, peeler and sandeel

Rigs:pulleys

Results:2 huss (8lbs, 3lbs), 3 macks and 1 3/4lb 3 beard rockling

Report:finally managed a trip after what seemed an eternity of not getting out, the joys of work i guess!..arrived to find a big (8-10ft) ground swell still running from the past 2 days, initially tried my choosen spot but after 30 mins and 2 rigs it became apparent that it was unfishable as each cast resulted in my gear being dragged into snags..i moved 200yds around the corner to a small bay which wasx a little calmer. here i had 3 macks on my second cast with the sabaki's, funnily i didnt see another for the rest of the day. i got my first huss anout 2 hours before hw, having had a few half hearted runs, he took half a fresh mack..for the next 2 hours i had a succesion of dropped runs, usually resulting in my gear snagged, the previously mentioned ground swell and very strong tidal run wasnt helping matters. around hw i dropped a whole peeler into the deep gulley near where i was casting from which was instantly taken by a good wrasse but unfortunately it went to ground and that was the last i saw of him.another cast into the same gulley resulted in a small 3 bearded rockling of 3/4 lbs again on peeler..a few more runs which resulted in lost fish had me thinking of home so on last cast was called for, this one was dropped into the same gulley as where i had lost the wrasse, its approximately 30 feet deep at hw so i was hopeful there may have been a resident conger there. 10 mins later i had a good run which got the pulse racing but alas it only turned out to be a 3lb pup huss..

when i got back to the car a quick talley shhowed i had lost 9 weights and 5 rigs.was still a nice day to be out if if it was frustrating by the fact that there was a good number of fish present but between a combination of the ground swell and tidal run it made connecting to any of them quite difficult. dissapointed not to get a double today, was relatively confident of getting one today given the tides and the fact i had some fresh macks..
