monkfish?

#2 Post by kieran »

Hi Art

Real monkfish or an angler?

Well done anyhow!
Kieran Hanrahan

Time spent fishing is never time wasted...

2015 targets - a triggerfish, a specimen bass, a three bearded rockling to complete the set and something big and toothy from certain north Mayo deep water marks

Looks like an angler allright.
The Monk is a member of the shark family but look more like a skate than a shark and has it's mouth on the under side of it's body. It is also known as an Angel Shark.
The Angler fish is best ID'ed by it's extra large mouth and the "fishing rod" attached above it which it uses to attract prey.
