People:me,fishface and john bunn

Duration:6-11pm

Tide:ebb

Weather:cool breeze,died out later, fine

Bait:lug,rag,mack (superquinn),squid

Rigs:various

Results:me, blank  , john, blank  ,,,,,,,,fishface, 1 plaice , 1 smoothound     .

Report:Not much to report from me as i blanked. I had too good a day in Greystones on Sat (sorry Shamoo   ) so i suppose i had to have bad luck sooner or later. Car broke down, used my sons car (well its mine really), had trouble getting mackeral, after all this hassle i should have called it a day but i insisted on travelling down to Ennerilly. Got there about an hour before the lads but i hadnt a touch when they arrived  . In fact i only got one bite all night and missed that. There was a seal patrolling up and down in front of us and i put this down as a bad sign (even though John had a theory that there must be loads of fish to bring him in  ). From 7-10pm not one of us had a bite ,,,,then,,,,,as usual Neil came up with the goods with a nice plaice. Bragging rights to him again    . Poor John was desperate to catch and prayed aloud,,,, but in vain,,,,,as he had to travel home with Neil bragging in his ear all the way   . Some guy was spinning off the rocks ,said he was after bass. I'm not sure whether he was joking but we told him there was a bass ban on . He didnt catch any   ., but caught mackeral and a sea trout. I called it a day at 10.30 and the two lads stayed a while longer. 10 minutes after i left Neil hooked into a smoothie of doggie proportions so a good night for him and not so good for me and John. Goes to prove that distance casting can pay off as Neil has a terriffic cast ( so he keeps telling us   )

If that was only your second blank this year then you are doing very well.

I think seals definitely scare off the fish - presumably there were some around to attract the seal but once the seal started hunting them I guess they would clear off rapidly. Last year I fished a particular rock mark a lot in West Cork - it was good provided there were no seals around. Once the seals appeared the fishing dried up.
