People:Me

Duration:8.30 pm till 12-30 am

Tide: dropping low water around 12

Weather: warm with slight mist later on. water crystal clear

Bait:frozen peeler and sand eel

Rigs:just the one rod brought up with me. 3 hook golds and 3 hook cascade. mainlt size 2s with some with 1/0 on bottom hook for crab

Results:
1 pup tope,15 dogs, a dab 21cm, 2 whiting to 25cm

Report: Had bites on every cast but bites sped up as darkness came in and many of the first hour and half of casts came back without fish despite being left out for a while. Second cast gave a doggy and the pup the size of a dog which surfaced 50 yards out. When I heard the splash I thought it was ray but could see it was something different in the crystal clear water.

The frozen crab gave very little with it being ignored until later when the odd dog took it. As the night went on I had double shots and 3 trebles of fish but only one treble of dogs. Dogs were finicky ripping the bait with a couple being lost falling off the hook when landing. In darkness the rod tip was bouncing as soon as it hit the water but had to be left out for good while to bring in fish. Last cast was a treble but my light went and fixing it I felt I lost a dog and then lost another dog bringing the rig in through the slight wave action.

Plenty of action, do you ever get surprising runs from the larger Tope?

Any spiders showing, had trouble with them in Morriscastle on thursday. The place was full of dogs. No smoothies.

Pat, No spiders or snipped snoods. No crab action at all really.

Marshpike. I live in Limerick so couldn't tell you if larger tope are caught here pups are not unusual. Met a guy fishing here a few years back who said he saw a 25lber caught here once for what its worth.
