North Kerry rock mark 26-May-2008

#1 Post by Donagh »

People:Me

Duration:6:10pm till 10:10pm

Tide:flooding

Weather:clear with NE wind going north at times

Bait:squid/mack

Rigs:Pulleys and ledgers

Results:
Straps 2lb and 4lb caught on side of mack on ledger
2 dogs and a 7lb huss to pulleys with whole squid

Report: I had the dogs at around 90 yards and the huss a 4lb strap 3 yards at a spot I haven't fished since I was first fished here and had discounted it. All the action between 7pm and after 8pm. I had the smaller strap after 9pm off to the rockier side to the left that really had to be pulled out with some force from a snag. Cast into there for the last hour hoping for a good fish out of the rough but just lost alot of gear.

Bite detection was poor for the baits further out with the wind and I would of had more dogs if I'd rebaited earlier but I didn't know there was a fish on. Not as much silt as has previously been here with this type of wind but maybe thats down to the weakier tide.

Nice one Donagh

Good to see the area is still producing

You havent heard if mackerel have arrived in that part of the world yet have you?

Puca goes to Kilrush Saturday, so will be exploring the beal bar-tarbert coastline over the next two weeks looking for tope. Fresh macks needed here

I dont know but it would be early for mackerel from shore in the outter estuary. No discarded rubbish or guys hammering feathers out broken lidl rods there so they mustnt be around yet.

Nice Huss Donagh, apparently there are plenty in carlingford lough, I just need to find a good spot from the shore to target them.

Dunlickey would be best spot for the chance of mackerel from shore and has produced them from may though its is hit and miss. I was talking about mackerel in the outter estuary not the atlantic coast.

Fmcn, Gearoid knows this spot but huss this size don't seem to be there in numbers.
