Lampoon,
It's no word of a lie, I finally got stuck into a rich seam last year (Pier at Old Youghal Bridge), my plan was
a) have dinner
b) try out smoker that I bought in Lidl (still in its box after 3 years)
c) donate some to my neighbour (he was after surgery for stomach cancer)
d) enough to have the freezer full of bait for some winter fishing

RESULT:
a) having no shortage of lovely fried fillets I finally found out how much mackerel my nippers could put away (shocking!)
b) still had a few left to smoke - filleted them completely boneless thanks to a thread here last year, smoker worked, the result was heavenly smoked macks
c) Gave the few remaining fillets to my neighbour Tagdh, I think I set his recovery back by a bit, the mackerel was still repeating on him in November :? he was saying he'd give the oily fish a miss the next time :shock:
d) Nothing left for the larder..........

No waste here (chance would be a fine thing)

10 macks to feed 5 people? Must be starved more like. I'd eat 4/5 in one sitting. BBQ them, delish!!

That was last year Bigstyle, my oldest was in senior infants, it'll probably 12 required for dinner this year, also it's one of the few dinners that they all agree on.

Anyway as Marshpike says, keep the reports coming (blanks included) as good co-operation between sea anglers 8)

3 polski's and one irish guy had approx five each of ballyforgotten pier last wed. plenty of mcks(and dolphins) available at north kerry north facing rock mark yesterday morning so I'm told :wink: . not going mentioning its name if ye dont mind as the litter is bad enough as it is. conditions underfoot were treacherous

First I saw (or heard of) were 10 caught while I was there on 10th May - earliest I've ever heard of them there. Hopefully it'll be like last year - loads all summer, right into November.

An acquaintance hooked one on Sunday morning but the seals got it (if you ever fish there, reel in like crazy or the seals will steal fish off the hook). Apart from that, I haven't heard of anything there.

Of course, there are plenty of baby pollack with an odd larger one (1lb or so) mixed in.

saw a lot of gannets diving off the burrow in kilmore this morning. plenty within casting range. think i'll give it a shot tomorrow

Weather: fine, no swell, light breeze, clear water
Rig:luminous krill imitation rig
Results: Dinner for the family :D :D

This is where I will go if I need to catch a mackerel on Christmas Eve!
The sea was heaving with life, pity that it's 100 miles from my house :(

Two years ago I fished Dursey on Christmas Day (whilst my wife kindly cooked dinner :) ) and in consecutive casts spinning with a toby lure caught a codling, followed by a mackerel. Made me wonder if they ever leave the area.

Pity it's about 750 miles from my house........

Anyway, is the absence of reports here a sign that mack are a bit scarcer at the moment??

Today I was boat fishing in and outside Cork Harbour, 2 hours fishing with three rods yielded 3 macks :(

Have they vacated the coastline??

was fishing off the seven heads in thge boat today for bait and had about 50 of them in 10 mins, the area seemed infested with them..

they seem bit on the weird side anyway like.
went down the wall thurs evening with just plain leads in pocket (if I bring hooks I get no casting practice done). the place was wall to wall with macks you could walk across they'r backs to cobh. turned car inside out looking for a pack of feathers I knew was there but no joy.
came back fri evening and gave in 3 and a half hours,for nothing.saw a few 'breaks' by the grassy patch and some elderly couples were annoying us tellin us about how many were caught off the pier ("was that earlier today or during the emergency now deer?").
anyways, they'r about alright but playin hard to get.
oh ya,went wrasse fishin with the bro yesterday for few hours down roaches point, the multitudes were out bashin away but all they caught were sliding floats and abuse

all round belmullet - wait for the sea to boil - then stick the spinners in - otherwise a waste of time

thing is they were all good big mack 8)
