went out in our boat this evening mate had two makeral, but thats only we were getting out a bit late wrong stage of the tide, but i do know there were about 100 took from the light house pier between 5 locals on the high tide , they are in and will stay in till end of summer. roll on the beer and barbacues,,,,, :D :D :D :D :lol:

watched 2 guys spin for around 3 hours at donaghadee harbour last night with no results. but another angler there told me they got 2 here a couple of nights ago on the bottom with mack strips. but i still ain't watched one taken here yet

Morning

Went out in the boat for a few hours yesterday afternoon, launched from Dalkey, and drifted about 400 yards out. Had about 30 macks, and a load of good sized pollock.

Out in the mates boat about 19:30 in DunLaoghaire Fiday evening just north of the buoy, had 25 macks on the handlines in about 10 minutes, we were really out sailing so were happy with that, was getting late so we headed back in.

Five shortish spinning sessions in the Clifden area yielded a total of zero macks last week :(

Was talking to someone who tried 'the usual spots' from a boat to no avail also.

Lit into large numbers of mackerel just off the Sovereigns in the boat on Sunday. Handy few herring through them too. Wont be long before the place seems like its carpeted with them.

Got enough for the days bait Saturday morning in bout 20mins just outside dun laoghaire. Then hit the same spot on the way back in for some supper that night.

About 10 macks taken from the shore at Carraroe, Co. Galway.
Unfurtunately, it wasn't that caught 'em. :cry:

tried howth this morn 4 an hr, got der jus b4 10 left jus after 11. caught 10 macks and der was a few others catching but not in gr8 numbers :D

god, everytime i see you and that bass in your hand ,makes me want to get sick, i think i still hate you. anyway to all the rest of you anglers out there, dont you feel that with the mack. showing up all over the country , that this topic is no longer needed.

Mack caught last week Ballycotton (not by me of course).

At St Johns Point, Co. Donegal yesterday. Four hours spinning for two wee pollock! No mackeral as yet. They are being caught by boat further off shore.

Considering they are still sporadic I think this thread still has its uses, still not catching them from the shore around carlingford lough or along the sea front between Kilkeel and Newcastle.

Here's the reason why I thought this thread would be a good idea

"A better idea of where and when the macks are about might:

1. Increase chances of catching nice dinner
2. Tempt you to try fishing for them with a fly rod or very light gear
3. Allow you to bring nippers along, they'll NEVER forget catching the first mack
4. If it works it might mean less time fishing for bait (if the bait is mack)
5. it might mean less need to haul in loads at a time for bait for the freezer during the season
6. Use the info to avoid mack bashers (I have found the morning tide can be like a different planet, a quiet, safe one :D
above are the 'selfish' reasons, other reasons are:
7. If supported it could provide an annual 'database' on mack stocks, allowing rough comparison from year to year
8. Might cut down on the need to take extra macks in a session, which is good for the fish.

I'm sure many of you are lucky enough to walk 5 mins to the shore, cast out and catch your dinner in 10 minutes, for me I'll be driving at least a half an hour before I get fishing, and last year in the whole summer I only once caught enough from shore to feed the hoards at home (3 kids and the better half = at least 10 macks required for dinner).

What I'm trying to say is please keep this thread going, especially when the macks are plentiful [/]emoticon for very hungry children and daddy goes here[/] :lol:

I agree Blackie especially until they're well established around the shore and even to the end of the season when they;re starting to dissappear.

I agree Blackie, obviously it will slow down a bit when they're establish around the entire coast line but it can work just as well for them heading back out.

If you think its a waste of time ignore it.........
