lennan pier Donegal 17/5/08

[b]People myself

[b]Duration 11.50am to H/W

[b]Tide rising

[b]Weather dull/overcast

[b]Bait mac:/squid

[b]Rigs one hook pulley/two hook flapper

[b]Results 1 thornback/two dogies/loads of flounder/1 turbot/2 plaice

[b]Report checked easytide on Friday night and seen that the height and time of the tide for lennan was perfect, so i hit the pier to fish the full rise of the tide next day. it was overcast and best of all "NO WIND" 8) set up the first rod with a pulley rig baited up with mackerel tipped with squid and put it well out, next rod was put out fairly close in. with in five minutes the rod at distance was bobbing about then went slack, i lifted into it and got a small ray, while unhooking it i noticed my other rod was getting small bites but nothing big so i let it sit for a while, then it bent clean over, ended up with a large flounder. the rest of the day with the rod fished in close it was flounder on every cast. the other rod went again and i landed a dogie of about 3lb with in ten minutes another one of about the same size. on the last couple of casts with the pulley rig i ended up getting a nice turbot of around 1lb and another plaice over the lb mark. had a great day at the pier and cant wait to get the right height of tide on it again. mickey ( a local from lennan ) has asked me down to to fish the deep hole ( known as Paddy's hole ) out in the bay, i have fished it before and the Pollock there are great, with ones into double figures, looking forward to fishing it again 8) 8) sorry only got a few pic's then the camera died on me :x

the son went down yesterday for a throw, said he could not get fishing, two guys and a wee young boy had the whole of the front of the pier covered with rods, and had a few rods up the side as well, now i think that was a bit over the top. four other guys landed there as well, could not get a spot to fish so they left. the son went round to the beach and there was a comp on it, when he was there he seen three Thornie's and a few flounder being landed. think i will be hitting my "out of the way" rock marks soon, for the piers are filling up with mackerel basher's..on the way home the son called in to Buncarana pier, again could not get fishing, it was packed with FN.

Nice fishing there, i am having the same troubles on some good easy access marks, i too have decided to take to the headlands and more out of the way locations.
