i will only say this once more as i feel a need to defend myself. the mark is not a bass hot spot but does tend to give up the odd fish , will not be posting in the close season again as i seem to have made a few enemies for a innocent mistake. i have been catching bass and other spieces for years now and treat all the fish with respect and release more bass than i keep. sorry if i have offended anybody as it was not my intention.

id say read your own post on brittas bay 11/5/08 a few days to the ban you were trying to catch your first bass so close to the spawning
i am all for the bass ban and catch and release
and imo keitzer is a good example to catch and release and the protection
of bass give him a brake

don't normally stick my head into arguements,draw enough of flack on myself every otherday with divorce over fishin etc.
Anyway,would just like to add that this keizer bloke has done irish bass,and fish in general, a great service. he has facilitated highlighting to 1000's of anglers,if inadvertently, the various rational behind the closs season and the need for conservation in general.
it may have been a slip of the key board putting up this post. I'm sure the geezers not one of the fishmongers we meet all too often these days or else he wouldn't be putting up posts.
we all gota learn and this site,through such posts,has done alot for the promotion of the sport and the conservation of our wild fish. so fair play to ALL the contributers of this post!
hope those two bass pull in the next month-and not on the end of a line either![/b]

yes pete i was trying 2 catch a bass on the 6/5/08 and not the 11/05/08 but as im concerned pete im not braking da law as i believe the ban is 15/05/08-15/06/08 so wats ur point :roll:

as far as keitzer go`s i do believe dat he didnt set out 2 catch bass and he wishes he never put up da post

Innocent mistake and you've accepted it, fair play to you Keitzer30. It can happen to all of us and probably has. In my case, many years ago we fished a well known flounder hotspot in search of specimen flounder during the bass ban. We were approached by a fisheries officer who asked us what we were fishing for. At that stage we had two plump flounder. He pointed out to us that the particular beach was known to produce bass and, although we were not intentionally fishing for bass, we were technically in breach of the bass ban. Needless to say, we accepted our mistake and immediately packed up. Since that day I tend to pack away my beach fishing gear for the month and concentrate on mullet fishing or sometimes wrasse.

Look we can go back forth with this for god knows how long! but the long and short of it is this, you say you respect fish, well the season is closed and yet you continue to catch Bass there was no report of any other fish being caught which leads me to question what the target species was! Take a look at some of the english sites and see what happens when bass fishing is notcontrolled and respected, they disapear. If you are fishing years then you knoew that chances where that you would hit a few bass that night, I have waited six months to have adecent chance to lure fish for bass and I observe the ban despite the fact that here rae definetly a few fish on the go, I get on line to see others catching fish out of season, what reaction do you expect. Respect fish? Personally i really have question that in this situation? Adam has a really valid point think about it rather than get defensive!

that is your opion padge and i respect that as of being defensive that was my intial response as it was a mistake to catch bass in the close season and i admitted it but some of the posts were still slating me over it. i now know how bad it can seem to some of u god bless the next angler to catch a bass out of season he will be tared and feathered id say. again honesty is not the best policy in this case? :cry:

And for my pennys worth i happened to be working at a site near where there was 2 guys fishing, they caught 3 bass all of which got a seepdy exit to the car boot :twisted: , and also on my way home yesterday evening i passed a local bass hotspot whcih had three guys groundbaiting and 2 guys and a lady spinning :? . This spot in my opinion is solely a bass spot so i would find it hard to believe their target was for anything else.

Also another point i have to make that there is not one notice on any beech that ive ever fished in waterford county about the bass ban. :? :? :x :x

another note i mite like to add is the spot we were fishing will also produce ray, flounder ,dabs ,dogfish, mullet, plaice, smoothhound, pollack, colies, and the likes and more so some of the fore mentioned spieces are more likely to be caught so u cant say i was targeting bass and so be it guys if a bass decides to take the bait u all know as anglers what thats like. :shock: but some of you seem to hang on every word i post as in " wicklow bass mark " well i can tell u all now there is very few bass marks in wicklow as any decent angler will know. so we were not targeting them thats for sure.

i've kept out of this for as long as i could..

the pro's and con's of this thread.

one thing it has done is highlight the fact that the bass ban is there for a reason, to help the fish with a better chance of spawning.
it also highlights the fact that there are people out there who take care not to target bass during this time.
and people should be more vigilant during this time and report any sightings of illegal fishing for bass during this period, let people know about the ban and bag limit, you'ld be surprised on the amount of people that that just dont know about the law on bass.. and talk to them, dont preach it or force it on them (they wont listen that way)

as for the original post, it wasnt good putting 'bass mark' thats one way to sure fire a situation during the ban, but as the poster said, both fish were released, so there should be no reason to jump down his neck and start an argument.

common sense should prevail.

there are those that just provoke an argument upon the mention of bass during the bass ban, these people should vent there frustration to those who ignore the signs and the law by contacting the local fisheries and reporting any and all suspect activities.
And if a beach is a known bass mark, get onto the local authorities to put up signs about the ban and bag limit, make it become local knowledge about the bass law.

its all too easy to sit at home and give out about someone posting about a fish being released during the ban, it will happen. The only sure way of not catching a bass during the ban is to stop fishing for the month, and if your like me, a few days and you get severe withdrawal symptoms.

i think a sticky should be put up with all the contact details of all fisheries boards and any other relevant authorities so people know who to contact straight away instead of coming in here and saying they say something earlier that day, when its too late to do anything about it.

thanks steve and well said as for bass notices on beaches on the east coast i dont think of many i know of and will be getting on to my local councillors i hope this will make amends for my f**k up. 8)
