West Waterford 13/5/08

People:me

Duration:7.30-9.30pm

Tide:LW at 6.30pm

Weather: warm, fairly calm
Bait: Lugs

Rigs:pennel

Results: 3 bass, 2 dogs

Report:
Fancied a bit of spinning in the calm evening, but brought the bait rods anyway as I had plenty of lugs. Fired a couple of lugs out anyway when I got there as water was a bit low for spinning this particular mark. Stayed with the bait rods anyway and didnt have to wait too long for the first bass, just over 2lbs.
Weather was beautifull, I wouldnt say ideal for bass though as water was fairly flat, but the surf seemed to get a bit stronger as the evening went on, only the occasional bit of stray kelp being caught on the lines.
Nice evenings fishing anyway with 2 more bass about the same size and a couple of dogfish.
Had to leave the beach at 9 to avoid being cut off. Spinned for 30mins with a toby but had no interest. Took a few pics but camera has no charge now so I cant get them off.

Nice one Figs,

Great weather for it.

I must get one more session in before the Ban 8)

On the LSD front , have you noticed less LSD in waterford this year?

Usually we would be plagued by them on various marks at this time of year , but this year they havnt showed yet !

They were the first ones Ive seen this year, one very pale and one with a vey dark back. There were often a lot of dead ones washed up near this particular spot last year :?: :?: .

Went out again last night 7.30 - 10.
1 flounder & 4 bass, 3x4lb, 1x6lb, all on lug.
6lb fish caught with ledger rig on my light spinning rod with braid, you can really appreciate the power of these fish using the lighter tackle :) :)
15 yards out with a 1 oz lead.
One of the 4lb fish foulhooked just under the gill covers -took about 10 mins to get him in, just stuck to the bottom and kept on surging back out whenever he got near to the shore - what a buzz :) :)
