Cork Harbour - 12th May 2008

#1 Post by RockHunter »

People: Me

Duration: 9.30 - 11.45 pm

Tide: HW at 12.30 am

Weather: Warm, calm

Bait: Crab, lugworm

Rigs: 3/0 pennel pulley, 2/0 two hook flapper

Results: 1 flounder

Report: As the weather was still very calm I decided to try a mark in Cork Harbour that I had heard about recently but never fished.

When I arrived there were a couple of guys plugging off the rocks. I set up on a sandy floored gap between two ribs of rock. I brought three rods, cast two out to moderate distance and the third in close to the rocks.

After about 30 minutes there was a strong pull on one of the rods at moderate distance. It was a 34 cm flounder, quite a plump little guy. He put up a surprisingly strong fight for a flounder.

I thought that was a promising start but that was it. There were some nibbles on the bait but nothing hooked, may bave been crabs as the lug worm bait didn't last on the hook long - whereas the crab bait lasted a lot longer.

It was interesting to try a new mark - definitely one to return to when there is a better surf, and probably one to fish from the beginning of the flood. I may have started a bit too late.

As I was driving home I looked out across the harbour toward Cobh - the harbour was like a lake - I have never seen it so calm.

Hi Pat,
Not that I noticed - I wasn't speaking to them as they were a bit further down from me and they headed off just after dusk
