brittas bay 10.05.08
People:me, fishface and John Bunn
Duration:7.30pm-11.30pm (fishface got a few extra sneaky hours earlier  )
Tide:falling
Weather:mild clear night
Bait:lug, rag, mack,squid
Rigs:everything (bass caught on 3 hook flapper made by fishface  !!)
Results:dogs, smoothie, unidentified flatfish. BASS,,,, YES I CAUGHT A BASS    ,,,,,
Report: Arrived at Brittas (Nice meeting you again John 1 and Harry) to find Neil already fishing away in the hotspot. 8pm my a"s£!!!!!!! Set up and got ready for the usual banter and slagging but we werent getting any bites  . Then Neil (fishface ) caught a smoothie (on his zippy) and we knew we would have to catch or we wouldnt hear the end of it all night   . I was fishing two rods, i wont do that again at night as i found it too much work in the dark   . Then i lit my lamp and i thought it was going to explode  , there were flames everywhere,my own fault, but i think i'll be going down the rechargable battery road in the future. About an hour in I caught a small flatfish which the lads thought was a brill or small turbot, i thought it was a flounder but i'm sure someone here will sort it out  . John Bunn had a doggie soon after and the pressure was off. I had blanked in Bray on monday night and told Neil and I was getting some stick for not putting a report up of my first blank of 08, but what was there to report ??? Anyways the blank was out of the way!!!   . I reeled in slowly and felt something hitting the bait, i was hoping but not really believing it could be a bass   . It was tugging and pulling all over the place and i kept easing the line back on to the reel." Stay on,,,,,,stay on" ,,,,I said to myself waiting for it to come off the hook,,,,,,
.but it didnt and as it came ashore I realized that yes,,,, it was,,,a BASS 8) 8) .. My first one ever,,,,, all slagging aside the two boys were delighted for me also. We had been trying for weeks for one with me just happy to be along learning from the lads,,, but i didnt think that it would be me that would catch one,,,,,,,as you can probably guess i'm delighted    . I was on cloud nine all the way home  .It took a lug and squid bait and you want to have seen how fast the lads went after my squid!!!. Thanks again to the two lads, especially fishface for showing me the ropes,,,,, and the marks!!!!!!

Good stuff!
Congratulations on your bass. It sounds like it was a great experience.
That certainly looks like a flounder to me. It does have some unusual colourings and markings though.
Regards,
John D.

Well done Dave,
I am delighted that you got your first bass - that will be a moment to remember.
Hopefully that is the first of many more.
