People: myself and rolly salthill, myself and FmcD an doilin

Duration: 2 hours approx. both times

Tide: on the ebb salthill, on the fill an doilin

Weather: fine weather light SW

Bait: squid mack lug sandeel

Rigs: pulleys, pats, 3 hook flappers, shads and tobys

Results: 1 crab in salthill

Report: (4th may) arrived too late in blackrock sat evening but tried to see were there any dogs about - evidently not

midget had been further east and nothing was doing either (spoke to him after)

one or two were spinning down at the slip - but there were no macks to be seen

the terns were bashing the water every so often - but that didnt amount to anything

headed out west to try beside an doilin (5th may)- didnt fancy the 20 min walk out to the rinn there and back so settled on a few rocks to the left of the carpark

very rough ground but thought my chances were better here to tease something out in the bright sunshine from the weed - it was not to be

FmcD was on spinning duty - but nothing showed there either

for what its worth there were lads handlining on a few currachs that went by with not much action about them

need to locate a fishing rehabilitation clinic after that weekend

especially after seeing some of the reports on here!

but it was too nice not to head out

Hi Corby

Ofeannachtais recommended trying to spin at LW from the rocks around An Doilin, reckons the fish are hugging the weeds and gullies... Have you done any pioneering down on the rock marks at the mouth of the bay?

well kieran

another local man told me to head down to that point that ofeannachtas was on about - at the end of the bay - another rinn!

he gave me a bit of a nod as regards access so ill try and use that sooner rather than later

aside from this venture all my other fishing has been in clare apart from two midweek jaunts in dublin

a few blank saving flounder or rockling would go nicely !!!

perfect day down at salthill, it should have been full of flatties.

unfortunately some council work has put an end to them i recon. it probably would have been better the lash the baits out from the start instead of faffing around in close.

i heard about that - they just went straight in and dug all the sand out of one of the beaches - crazy stuff

was it just the one you were on or did they do it in a few spots - i know sands move of their own accord and all that - but i remember silverstrand seeming like it was about 4-5 foot deeper last year - maybe they did the same thing there!

Actually I was in Silverstrand recently and the sand came up to to the bottom of the steps, where last year it was rocks and quite a drop down from the bottom step. Probably a natural fluctuation though, doubt the council filled that much sand in! There's a nice gulley a few yards out from the big rocks now, should hold a few flounder at high tide :D

disappointing to see you blank!! :wink:

An Dóilín as Kieran stated is good a LW fish the gullies!! The other mark you mention is at the end of the brothers property. Pollock and wrasse should be returning from now on. take a look at the OS a small road to the shore exists to with 300 yards of the point. Be careful!! rocks can be extremely slippery.
