greystones 15th april o8
People:me
Duration:8pm- 10.30pm
Tide:rising
Weather:flat calm, clear
Bait:rag,
Rigs:2 hook flapper, pulley
Results:1 shore rockling, 1 flounder(plaice???)
Report:Had some rag left over from the weekend so headed out to Bray Harbour. It was packed so I went to Greystones, where the harbour is now a building site . I set up at the steps and cast out. There was another angler there who told me it was a good spot for plaice, and he had caught one earlier, about a pound weight. IT was a beautiful night and i had high hopes but for long spells I didnt even get a bite :? . He caught a nice coalie just before dark and headed off for the Dart. I caught my first fish at about 10 o clock and it was a great relief, no blank   . That was me happy enough   . Flounder or plaice  :( :? you tell me. Hopefully a plaice (new species) but go on tell me, I can take it   , and the shore rockling was a (small  )bonus. Funny how happy two small fish can make you

I am confused now.
Some of the flat fish I caught last weekend had red/orange dots but going by the Species Guide on this website flounder have "lumpy nodules" all the way up the backbone whereas plaice are smooth up to the head where there are some nodules. So to distinguish them I have been running my finger up the spines and they have always felt lumpy - or is it just the backbone that I have been feeling??
Anybody got any comments?

Sorry its not your first plaice...it will come soon enough, you have just gotta be in the right "plaice" at the right time...sorry couldnt resist that one
I have fished greystones a couple of times, I find the rocks to the right of the harbour (left of the very small beach) to be a decent spot, fished with eric once who had a really good coalie and I had 11 fish in 3 1/2 hours in a session on my own. Just be careful if there is a big swell, you will soon get a soaking
