Ive given up, I havent seen anything over 2lb from the Shore this year, Quite frankly it drove me despair, then to drink! Give it a Month mate, then I'll be Shore time for K2 again, til then, cant see any point in Bothering... :(

Was on a Fishing Session with Big Dave a couple of weeks back, got so bored I jumped in the Van and slept!

Fish caught this year to over 5lbs

#7 Post by Tryhard »

Maybe you should think about changing tactics. I've a few friends who are pulling pollack out to over 5lbs on spinners and spinning tactics. If the bait nailed on the bottom isn't working then change to something that is. My friends are fishing rock marks in Co. Down and doing very well. I think it's time to get the maps out and do the same.

Is that food for thought? If you just give up then you'll achieve nothing - diversify!

The Slate and others

#9 Post by Tryhard »

The "Slate" is only one of nine marks that my friends are fishing. But I hear you guys don't like to walk too far from your transport so I'd say the Slate is way outside of your walking distance. There are several other marks on that part of the coast that don't require such a hike. Since mid-february most have thrown up fish and dogs to bait on the bottom as well as to spinning and deep, slow spun sandeel / jelliworms. There are fish there, on your doorsteps, you just have to put yourselves out a little to catch them. Your choice mate!

I could do the 30th april ,might need to scronge some transport though . hopefully the fishing will have picked by then . open to ideas of were to fish as most of the places i generally fish are hard to find /climb down to and theres not much space for many people to fish .

hi pookie 30th would suit best if possible ,what about ballycastle beach as a venue ? the tides are pretty good for an evening session low water is at 19.19hrs so at least you'll be able to fish an in-coming tide . good chance of a sea trout as well so you could bring your fly rod if its a calm evening .
Anyone else have any other suggestions ?
ps pooks cheers for info on baggage etc on holidays ,would hate to get my rod broke .

Just been told tonight iam only free on fri. But i try get it sorted let you know mon at latest Were on ballycastle beach would you fish i tried near panns rocks last time.for sea trout would you need to fish at river entrance. on rod and travel it happens very very seldom but let me kknow when i will sort for you have a lot of stickers for you for your pack.

you can get the sea trout anywhere along the beach ,i would generally fish close to the black rock in front of the wee carpark near pans rock .
The way the tides are means you could fish fri evening as well, i finish work around 5ish ,might be able to get away a bit sooner ,still means youd be fishing a filling tide into darkness so a better chance of a few fish .
