East Cork Beach - Saturday 15th March 2008

#1 Post by RockHunter »

People: Me

Duration: 10 pm - 1 am

Tide: HW at Midnight

Weather: Light breeze, dry, very mild

Bait: Lug worm, squid, mussel, oyster

Rigs: 4/0 single hook flapper, 3/0 pennel pulley, 2 hook flapper (size 2)

Results: 2 coalfish

Report: Having watched the weather forcast on 9 pm news which was predicting easterly winds I decided to try a SW facing East Cork Beach - not one I would normally fish. However, when I got there the easterly wind had not yet picked up. It was very calm although there was a reasonable surf rolling in.

I caught the first coalfish about an hour after starting and an hour before high tide on lug worm with size 2 double hook flapper. It was approx. 3/4 lb, 32 cm long.

The second was hooked about 11.45 pm - again with the size 2 rig, this time on a cocktail of oyster and mussel. It was a little larger, slightly under 1 lb and 34 cm long.

No more bites after than - but it was a nice night to be out - very mild and every so often the moon broke through to clouds to reflect onto the surf.

Hi rock hunter,
was out myself on sun night for a few hrs.Didn't have as much as 1 bite for the session.I did manage to catch 4 specimum crabs that put up a great fight on the light gear.It was strange as the conditions were perfect for what should have been a gud 1,but it wasn't to be maybe it was the small tides at the moment well thats my excuse and i'm sticking to it.At least you had a few fish which was the main thing, heres hoping to some decent results in the next few weeks as its been tough since the end of jan to put it mildly.
Keep up the good work.
Tight lines.

I see the oyster is still working for you  Have a couple of dozen in the freezer, going to bring a few each session to give them a proper trial once the water temps rise a little.
