Hi

Anyone fish around here - been in touch with Fonzy already.

That's a maigre / meagre, like a bass but way bigger! :shock: way...

Thought this would be a scratching trip on the beaches...

I don't think so now! :D

From the shore, with a lure, as far as I know at the lighthouse at Coubre, mind you, look at the neoprene waders and at night...

are they the same as stone basse??

if they are think they can usually be found around bits for floating debis in the water. was once told by someone that he always brings a spinning rod afloat with him and has a few casts around any debris he comes across

different species paul. stonebass are more commonly known as wreckfish. will often see them holding under the hull of boats when driftnig for shark.have seen a few caught while sharking

Yeah, different species.

did I mention that this one is not especially big... apparently.
They can go over 100 lbs and run the rivers to spawn in June / July!

The wee salmon on the Moy will never look the same!

pardon my french, or rather the lack of, but where abouts are they getting those bass? like are they athlantic or is it off of some former colony or what?
golden greys, giltheads, triggers....who knows, maybe next summer![/img]

they can appear anywhere but the main hotspot for them is the mouth of the Gironde, western Atlantic abotu three hours drive below La Rochelle

Was just curious. Fished around la rochelle before but for carp. caught few small brownies as well in pyranees (the mountains like) but a bass like that. went lookin for the irish version this evening in cork harbour without a sniff-role on the summer!

It looks similar to a fish they catch in South Africa called a Cob...

I've caught cob up to 36 lbs, and compared to the fish in the photo it was a tiddler...... :?

One way to id a cob is the pale mustard colour of it's inside mouth. Does these bass have that?
