I've fished the mouth of the estuary a number of times. I found the best results came when fishing the incoming tide. Try to cast near the lip of the sand bank at the Oscar Traynor side of the channel as the tide comes over it. There seem to be fish moving up the inside of the channel. I've had sea trout, dabs, bass, mackerel and flounder this way, all during the day. A cast of about 50 yards does it as I find that accuracy paid dividends much more than lobbing into the channel itself. You'll be fishing into a max of 5 or six feet of water at full tide. Hope that helps.
Fish 2009; Whiting, Dab, Pollock, Short Spined Sea Scorpion, Flounder, Ballan Wrasse, Bass, Blennie, Tompot Blennie, Coalfish.

Thanks....Since I am in Ireland I just fished the south side...This time the North side looks more the sandy beaches of the south of France (where I'm from), and we never fish them in winter...But I'm sure it's a great fishing place there is a lot of food for the fishes and an estuary is always a good spot...So I 'll follow your advices, it has work with Eric in Killiney, so with the good days coming back, I think it'll work for here too....

Hi lads, the Oscar Traynor side is where the car park is. Just walk out to the mouth of the estuary. I generally fish with 2 rods, one with a single hook clip down using lug and mack cocktail, and the 2nd with a 2 hook flapper coser in when the tide is running higher. The single hook I generally try to get into about 2 feet plus of water just as it rises over the lip of the channel. This is where I had the sea trout and bass, guess they were feeding on the inside as the tide rose. Hope that helps lads. I'll be heading out there this weekend for a day session if anyone fancies it just pm me.
