West Cork Beach, 18/02/2008

People: me and petekd

Duration: 21:00-23:30

Tide: LWish and rising

Weather: overcast, mild, slight easterly breeze

Bait: black lug, sandeel, crab

Rigs: flappers

Results: 2 five bearded rockling, 1 flounder, 1 pollack to me - Pete 1 shore rockling

Report: Headed out in the relatively pleasant conditions to try our favourite mark (basically bass fever now that Pete got one the other day). Quiet enough start, especially for me as I had to cannabalise a couple of rigs to get something I could fish with. Nothing for first few casts, little bit of weed. My line got dragged over a bit so I reeled in to find a shore rockling - excellent I thought species 11 for the year. Pete then pointed out I had his line tangled in mine and in fact the fish was on his hook. Ah well. A quick scissors job and another hastily repaired rig and I cast out again.
That was it for Pete, using sandeel instead of lug was his downfall. I switched to lug and started catching. Had the fish in successive casts. No detectable bites, just reeled in to find them there. No size to any of them.
Pollack was very pale and small (thought he was a whiting to start with) and came to my distance rod on a bit of sandeel wrapped in lug which had been out there most of the time we were there.
The friendly fox from last year was still around, but his mackerel dinner courtesy of Mr Davis wasn't enough for him and Pete turned round to find him emptying the bait box onto the sand.
Hopefully Pete will post some pics of the proceedings...

Actually, in that photo I was not, in fact, looking for a euro - I was scrabbling in the sand trying to find Pete's fishing prowess

LOL, you must have found it and kept it for yourself so..... :D

Can't possibly concentrate on fishing when a fox is raiding your bait and a Scotsman is raiding your chocolate biccies..... :D That and the sight of you digging lug with your bare hands, anyone else ever try that?
