i heard about salting lug worms.i have tried and it works very well.does anyone knows if you can do the same with rag worms or not.if you can what is the best rag worm to use king rag or just normal 2 to 3 inches rag worm.

I've done it with rag, but it's not a very successful bait in my opinion as they get so small, I've only used them for bulking out a squid bait or that.
The main appeal with rag is movement as opposed to lug which tend to bring fish in on scent, so when they're dead they're not as effective.

I did not know that.So if i salt them they are good only to top up other bait like squid,lug ect.

as eoin said most of rags appeal is in the movement, wouldn't say it would be a great bait when salted

I also found the rag very hard to actually find once they were done, did maddies and they disappeared completely apart from the odd thread that was covered in salt.
No good.

The king rag was very small and shrivelled but it was at least visible, although not all and some of it was tiny and useless.

I wouldn't bother again after doing it once, I do it all the time with lug though.

How do you salt the lug, is it as simple as putting them in a bucket of salt?

place them on some newspaper, sprinkle with salt, wrap in newspaper and into the fridge/freezer they go!
Ragworm can survive in a tray of saltwater and just need wrapped in newspaper and sea peat when brought fishing

I use a builders bucket and lots of cheap bulk table salt.
Either gut your lug or leave them whole. Gutting probably gives a slightly better result but I do them whole also.
Put a layer of salt in the bottom of the bucket, then a few worms, then a layer of salt and so on, don't skimp on the salt.
A lot of water is drawn out of them over the next few days so I go back and pour water off almost daily or as needs be.
I leave them for up to a week, but check them daily cos if they go too far they'll go brittle and will break too easily almost like freeze dried and you won't even get them on the hook.
When finished I tend to wrap them in ziploc bags and hop them in the freezer although they don't have to go in the freezer to keep well once finished, I just prefer them there.
When done right they should be smaller and tougher than before, leathery.
Whack them on the hook for flats or inside a squid to bulk out a bait, they rehydrate and go to snot when on the hook a few minutes.

Gutting smaller ones won't work, they explode, or something like that...

I salted lug before, quite unsuccessfully :x

Covered in salt & wrapped in newspaper. They were like 'mush' when they came out! :shock:

same thing happened to me, so i left out the newspaper and used a tub. loads of salt/lug/salt/lug/salt an so on. left them for a week, when i checked them they were like rubber. so i'd say the salt an tub is the best way....
