I´m pretty new to sea fishing - well, and absolute beginner to be honest, though I used to do coarse fishing as a teenager. I moved to Lanzarote a while back and have been dabbling - seems criminal not to fish here!
Anyway, I don't know much about rods and would like some suggestions please. I have a 9ft rod (don't ask me what type - I started cheap with a kit) which seems for most of what I do a bit short. I keep loosing tackle on the rocks because of it.
So far I've been doing float fishing with about 30g and a bit of plug fishing. Ideally I'd like something suitable for both - that will give me the best distance possible - and get my tackle away from the rocks. What should I be looking for? Can one rod do the two things - or should I be looking for two?

a good bass or flattie rod should do both and at 11foot 6 inches will give you extra reach another alternative is a 3lb test pike rod normally 12 foot the pike rod should not cost more than 75 euro for a half decent one for a bass rod expect to pay a lot more for quality kit another option is a shimano exage they do a 10 foot one i think very handy for transport and nice bit of kit , hope this helps , dont be shy on sticking an old report and a few pics up on the site ,its nice to see reports from sunny climates at this time of the year   8)

Thanks for the advice. Deffinately the extra reach is what I need - the rocks where I usually fish from are a real headache. Choices are limited here with a couple of tackle shops
Unfortutanetly I haven't had the chance to get out lately - to much bloody work! And when I have I've not really caught anything of much note - I think I'd be a bit embarassed with my catches to date if I had photos to put on here! :D But when I get something I'm half pleased with I´ll put some pics up.
However, if you do want to see what you´ve been missing in the meantime - here's the view from my back garden earlier this evening...
I've got a few more of my pictures of the island online if you are interested CLICK HERE
