Hi, was walking today around Timoleague and Courtmascurry. there were some anglers, on the pier and on the beach. Most of them were sitting there for 4,5 hours but no-one cathes any fish.
Has somebody knowledge of a good spot for eels and congers, and what bait do you use usually, around those two villages?

Hi. I was talking (barely) to the guys fishingthe pier. They weren't locals and were fishing in the wrong way for the area. Theres 2 big congers on the pier. Fish nightime with a rubby dubby bag under the light at thhe head of the pier and you'll do fine.
The estuary and especially the river stretch at Timoleague is full of silver eels. Peeler, garden worm and even cotton wool catches here but I'd probably stick with the peeler!
Not the best time of year to be fishing for those fish though is it?

you're right, it's not the good moment now. I'm from Belgium, and we start fishing eels around the end of march, till november. Some Irish Anglers maybe do not understand very well why I'm interested in eels. As salmon and trout is popular in Ireland, so are eels in the Begian county west-vlaanderen, near the sea. I'm living in Bruges near the river, and usually we cath them with small roach and garden worms, sometimes maggots. And usually with a rod AND float. But, that last will be diificult in the Timoleague river, because of the tide.
Nevertheless, thanks for the info and pobably, next weekend I start eel-fishing.

No probs man. In relation to your previous post looking for a fishing buddy/guidance in the area, I'm based half and half in Courtmacsherry and Dublin. While my time in Courtmac is quite random I'd be more than happy to help you find your feet. This area is really top notch on the shore fishing front so if you drop me your details I'll give you a heads up anytime I'm going to be in the area. To give you some idea on the potential of the area, 2 sessions of less than 2 hours this week on piss poor tides using second rate bait yielded 7 species.

thanks a million for your invitation. I'm really looking for our session!! It's already for 18 years that i come every year for a couple of weeks to ireland, for angling of course, and since I'm based in Cork since july 2004.... I had back luck!!Not only the coarse fishing, pike, but also the sea-fishing. Except on kinsale bridge last winter, every session of 4 hours, twice a week, I had between 30 and 70 whitings. So, I urgent need a good guide, because I believe I do something wrong.... here my details:

Mullet (up to 4.5 pounds) on drifted sandeel and fly, a few small coalies, one bass, flounder aout a pound, tiny dab, LSD and 2 silver eels (take note aruba!). All those were on lug and caught directly in front of my house. I could almost have fished from my garden. There were a lot of fish jumping, possibly early sea trout but I didn't get near them
