Results:1 Plaice (2lb), 2 flounder, 4 dabs, 5 rockling, 13 whiting.




Report:Good days fishing, 2 species i havint caught before (Plaice and Rockling) bites were coming all day, was a little bit hard to see them clearly with the breeze, lost no gear that was a nice bonus. Nice spot to fish, will definitley be going back, noticed i got no fish at all on the peelers... was hoping for some codling :roll: but maybe next time.

sure its a plaice and not a flounder, as far as i was aware you usually dont get plaice on the east coast til around mid to end april

i didnt post a pic of the plaice paul, it was a good bit bigger then the flounders, similar colour but with bright orange/red spots on it... nearly sure it was a plaice but i could be wrong

many flounder also have the orange spots though so it can be confusing.

yeah i noticed that... a couple had dull spots on them but the plaice seemed a bit rounder in shape and the spots stood out a lot more compared to some of the flounders... would plaice be a regular catch in that area? or was it more a lucky bite?

had them all along the east coast last year but only from april onwards and was told this was the norm.

maybe due to the milder weather there are a few hanging around

the best way to differentiate the plaice from a flounder is the position of the bony ridges. on the plaice they are found right behind the back of the head while with the flounder they are behind the gill
