west cork rock mark 27th Jan 2008
People:me
Duration:1100-1700
Tide:lw @ approx 1415
Weather:beautiful, very mild,no breeze and clear blue sky...
Bait:fresh blacks,frozen mack,launce and herring
Rigs:pulleys and 2 hook sheepy rig
Results:3 huss, approx 9+lbs (89cm), 8lbs(84cm) and 7lbs (82 cm)
Report:
with the weather being amazing i decided to head west and try a mark i had been told about but of yet hadnt fished.unsure what i'd be after i brought a number of different baits with the aim of scratching with one rod and going after huss and conger with the other. after a 10 min hike i arrived at the mark. luckily the sea was flat calm as with any sort of swell this mark is unfishable.
all was quite for the first 2 hours bar one bit which i had left develop too long and had gone to ground and another fish which came off on the way in. about low water i got the first huss of 89cm. was a nice female which was either well fed or close to birth. either way i took a quick pic and measure and sent her on her way.she took half a frozen launce.about an hour later i had another of slightly smaller size (84cm) which took a whole mackeral fillet. this was quickly followed by th smallest of the day, another female of 82cm which took launce and herring....
interesting all were female and looked in pup. because of this i didnt weigh them as i had left my sling at home, thus all weights were an estimation
