Do you need to keep a fish to claim it as a speciman?

Go to this site and you can down load the 2007 book. At the back of the book it will tell you what they need for eash species

Specimens

#4 Post by JimC »

The shortest answer possible Conor is: No.
The committee recommends a body for ID purposes where a species might be confused with another. In the marine section there are a few, for example: LSD and Bull Huss (people have claimed a specimen LSD only for it to be a small Huss) As you can see from the excerpt the most important thing is quality photos if you are not sending back the body (I’ve had a claim not ratified myself as the photos were deemed not good enough  ).
To this end the most important things for the guy chasing a specimen fish are a registered scales and a good camera. The only spanner in the works is for boat anglers, the fish must be weighed on dry land (there are moves to address this for some species). Enjoy the chase! :)

ratifying species

It's a pity the CFB board don't authorise Sea Fisheries Officers at ports to identify species. They are countrywide and could reduce the need to kill fish to claim.

you dont need to kill fish ,takeing good photos is all that is required ,and in this day and age digital cameras are simple to use ,page 54 here gives id details required http://www.skuaangling.net/results/Iris ... h%2007.pdf
If someone shows you a mark to fish, respect it and dont pass it of as one of your own, dont tell every man and his dog about it.
