Old Bawn / Courtown Pier 18th Jan 2008

#1 Post by Danny M. »

People:Myself, Baz Dave(AKA Heath on this site) and Pat

Duration:8pm - 2am

Tide:High around 1030pm

Weather:Fresh S/W wind, frequent rain.

Bait:Fresh /frozen peelr, frozen Black Lug, frozen Squid, frozen Mack

Rigs:Pennel Pulleys/Flappers

Results:Myself:1 Codling 43cm, 1 pin whiting, 1 L.S.D, Baz 1 pin whiting, Dave numerous pin whiting, Pat 1 three bearded rockling numerous pin whiting and 2 L.S.D.s

Report:Fished Old Bawn on the rise from 8pm to midnight. Surf was huge and there was a huge rip running up the beach making distance casting pointless as the grips could not hold bottom. Anyway First cast 60yard lob into the surf with a baited pennel pulley loaded with fresh crab and Black lug, Rod gave a couple of nods and sprang back up into the rod rest. Reeled down to strike...slack line  about 15yards of it.. then he woke up and ran with the rip gave a great scrap on the 7ht with the drag set at about 70% lock. Landed was a chubby little 43cm codling :D.

Hopes were high for a good run at the codling at this point....but it wasnt to be. Bites were hard to detect with wind/surf etc....Weed become horrific added to the rip and crossed lines etcbecame unbarable so we packed up and headed to courtown Pier at midnight.

Lots of colour in the water here, tide falling but could only manage a couple of LSDs here between us

All fish were returned bar the codling ( which had 2 pin whiting and a shrimp in its belly ! Hungry bugger.

Wasnt a great session by any account but good craic all the same!

Should have the Broad Band in this week so il throw up a few Pics.

Good Luck!

Good to see the codling there. I think I saw you at Old Bawn ... I was up at the north end. Only managed a mid sized whiting but I only had wraps and squid so was happy enough. Weed wasn't as bad early on but like you said, the sea conditions were a problem.
