Little Kilary, Galway 24.1.08

#1 Post by kieran »

People: myself and Bruce Vaughan

Duration: 3 hours

Tide: around LW up

Weather: grey, windy as hell from SW

Bait: frozen mackerel

Rigs: variable

Results: 1 whiting, small

Report: nothing much to report, nothing biting not even crabs. Bit of a dud really, got the whiting early, Bruce blanked.

Time spent fishing is never time wasted...

2015 targets - a triggerfish, a specimen bass, a three bearded rockling to complete the set and something big and toothy from certain north Mayo deep water marks

i think there has been plenty of fishing pressure on the mark - more so than usual - but if all is failing at least the crabs wandering off with your bait keep you mildly entertained - strange they were quiet

no rays at killary

#5 Post by kieran »

Yeah, not even a doggie never mind a ray

Could be all the fresh water flooding into the bay has the true salt water fish scared off - been fairly torrential for the last week so maybe it was a case that whiting and flounder are fairly stubborn and like it brackish...

I was surprised we could find a flounder, expected to contact them

Such is life...

from my limited experience there, its more dabs than flounders that youll come across there - your talking about the rock mark not the beach round the corner?

dabs v flounder

#7 Post by kieran »

Yes, it produces lots of dabs, specimens on a regular basis, but it also produces flounder especially further in where we were fishing...
