build a baitpump

#1 Post by fogelberg »

Hi guys and girls... It's been a while since I was in here.

Decided to go to the best source for info regarding the subject since surf-casting ain't that big here in Sweden...

I've been asking around my local tackle stores after bait pump and none of them can (or bothers) to bring in a bait pump for me so I decided that I will build one myself...

So my question for you lad and lassies are: Does anyone have any good tips & tricks or even a "how to" on this?? Have anyone done this themselves?

I was thinking about using a 50mm PVC pipe approx 1 meter in length as a tube, but ow about the internals?

50mm sounds about right... For a seal use an old or new squash ball squashed between two metal washers. The washers will need to be about 45mm.

Run some threaded rod through the washers and fix a nut onto the end.

You will need a cap on your pvc pipe. Run the threaded rod through the cap and weld a handle on. Now you will need a small hole (about 10mm Dia) near the cap to let the air out as you pump.

Hope I described it ok....... I have never built one this way, but I have used a bait pump before so I think this should get you started....

BTW, Welcome back. Good to see you on here again.

I got a bait pump last year (king size Alvey) and tried it once without any success...I'd be grateful if anybody in Cork is using one and would be willing to give me a demo...thanks, rory

Sure I could buy one over the internet through veals or whatever, but due to the pumps size, shipping will as much as the pump itself and that whats stops me from doing that.

But I'm pretty sure that building one myself wont be to difficult...

going on a scavange hunt this weekend.
