new reel
the penn are a good reel but i think more for rough ground work. the penn can get damaged if sand gets into them. my advice is get a abu 6500ct hi speed it has 3 different ways of slowing it down, have to say they are a cracking reel and a joy to fish with.

well there have been probs with the gears stripping so no i dont think it would be up to rough ground fishing(the high speed that is)....a 6500 of any description is bad in the rough.(the sort of rough ground your talking about anyway)
i would vote for the 525 because although i dont like them they are good at casing a long way and hauling over rough ground.
just my 2 cents.....
Alex.

I have a 525 super mag xtra, small bit of difference to the supermag.
Grand reel, powerful drag for a small reel, but can bite if the mags are fully off!
More suited for the likes light/moderate rough ground fishing IMO.
Sometimes when casting I find the clicker/bite alarm engages mid flight
But lately it has taken a back seat against my 7HT, thats just down to my own preference really.
One other thing when sand gets into the spool mid session it makes an unpleasent sound
