Kilkeel Co.down 19/01/09

#1 Post by marshpike »

People: Me & Myself

Duration: 18.30-22.30

Tide:high tide 20.30

Weather: 8sws, calm with a bit of a swell

Bait:Mackerel tipped with squid, sandeel

Rigs: 3 hook flapper, pennel

Results: 18 pin Whiting, 1 codling & 1 coalfish

Report: Fishing another new mark which had a bit of a hike, good to see it produce although the fish were all relatively small. Took two hours to get my first bite then I just couldn't get past the whiting, I also lost a good fish on a whole squid mounted on a pennel rig but with little to no fight I assume it was a doggie, I look forward to fishing this mark with a bit of surf up.

Typical stamp, take a good look at this ones tail.

I didn't see the point in Killing it as it had made it this far, I used to work in the local fish market when I was a nipper and seen many cases of similar deformities especially with Cod.

I heard one time that they threw barrels in at Sellafield as an experiment and they washed up on the co.down coast, don't know if there was any truth in it or not.

any thing i get with a deformity gets the death penalty.

i personally think it is right to remove them i don't think they should be given the chance to breed.

you don't see dog breeders using bad stock its for a good reason

marshpike ,headed down to meet up with you as we agreed sun 18.00 waited around cranfield for you + tried to ring the mobile number you gave me but a voice message all day long said this number cannot recieve my call, went and fished another mark with mates
wasted petrol money and fishing time for a no show and a dummy mobile number
if it cant get its jaws round a 1/0 its not worth catching [ mullet excluded ]

FFS Rab I was out on the lash on Friday night and lost my phone, I had four bags of Rag worm (£24) brought in from England especially for the session and I thought everyone was a no show.

My mate came down from Belfast with the bait and I drove up to Newry to
collect them, he was meant to fish also but couldn't make it as his better
half had hurt her back.

I went onto the shore and had 22 Coalfish and one whiting, fished from
19.00 until 23.30 on my own.

All I can do is apologise for the confusion, if you know Fergal from the
site give him a call and he will confirm.

People:Me

Duration: 22.00 - 01.00

Tide: 00.00 High

Weather: Strong SWS blowing up a good surf

Bait:Mackerel, Rag, Squid, Sandeel

Rigs: Pennel, 3 hook flapper

Results: 1 Coalie

Last night was the roughest sea I've cast a line into to date and never felt that I was fishing effectively through the session, I still managed a Coalie and missed a good bite on Mackerel/Squid cocktail interesting potential on yet another new mark.

There seems to be a large number of whiting and coalie along this part of the coast line with with a few decent codling in between, I'm sure that a few surprises are going to show.
