Myself and Tom,
Fished from 7pm to 11 pm Hw approx 9-30pm.
bait lug and mackeral
Sea condition - Very large swell
Rigs 2 hook 1up and 1 down.
Catch 8 flounder and 1 3 bearded rockling
As it was a calm mild night Tom and I decided to use up our leftover bait from last sunday. We headed of in the Dunfanaghy direction to find tramore beach. After a very long walk over sandhill after sandhill we eventually found it. The fishing was difficult because of the swell. Breakers were running a long way up the beach with a strong undertow to the right. AS the tide rose conditions eased and I started to catch. First fish was a 41 cm flounder weighing 1lb 13oz. this was followed by 6others ranging from 37 cm down to 28cm. My last cast produced a 26cm 3 bearded rockling. Tom managed only 1 flounder.
Species 2008. 1 coal fish ( 32 cm ) , 1 3 bearded rockling ( 26 cm ), 2 turbot (26 cm ), 1 sea trout ( 39 cm )and 16 flounder ( 41 cm )

Is that the beach to the west of Dunfanaghy, past the lake?
Thought I would have a look at it, but decided against it on the grounds I would be exhausted by the time I got there, fair dues to you. :shock: I was also told that there is an excellent rock mark to the north of it as you begin the climb into Horn Head, a long deep gully that runs into the land
Is there any truth in this?

We went in from the Falcarragh side of the lake .It took about a 30 min walk after we had gained permission to cross the land from a local farmer.
The beach is a shallow one as is most of the beach,s up here. all the beach,s in this area produce good size flounder and coalfish at this time of the year but not much else. I don,t know the rock mark you mentioned but i will try to find it. If you go to the Donegal County Council website in the planning section you can use the satellite mapping system to search the whole of the Donegal coastline.

nice tip on the county council website. [url]http://gis.donegal.ie/[/url] Can not see the mark on the maps or photos either, could be a tall story although there is a headland facing harveys rocks that looks interesting...

Me and my friends are planning this year to visit as many new venues in North Donegal as we possibly can . It beats going to Portsalon , Rathmullen or Faughan most weeks. Their are lots of virtually unfished beach,s and rock marks to be explored. Yes some will have long walks and be difficult to access but we will try. I will regularly post our catch and beach details. What we are hoping for is to catch more species and larger or specimen fish ie, bass , cod , haddock, pollack, wrasse , huss etc. It may turn out to be a dream but we are determined to try.
