BRAY HARBOUR, 13-01-08

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

People:me

Duration:7-10pm

Tide:low tide 8pm approx

Weather:raining at first,cleared up ,mild.

Bait:squid, mack

Rigs: got into knots! 2 hook flappers

Results:1 whiting, 1 shore rockling????

Report:Didnt rain all day, i should have gone earlier but didnt! It was raining as i arrived in Bray (didnt forget the coat this time :) ) but soon cleared up to a mild night. Some other anglers(does that mean i'm one as well?) made room for me on the pier and I started to set up . As usual I got into knots with my rig but had spare ones made up . The other anglers were very helpful and gave me very useful tips. One told me of a handy way to pack the rigs with the hooks in foam tubing which will be a lifesaver for me. The time I spent sorting out traces  . Another guy, who also frequents this site (does that sound a bit odd  ), actually showed me the hooks he used rather than throwing numbers at me. No matter what you read you cant beat actually being shown how to do something. They also showed me how to present the bait which I had been having problems doing. Also told me of a few new marks which I will try out. All in all they couldnt have been more helpful to a novice like me, many thanks. I told them if i caught anything i'd put the pics up here. It was very weedy with a strong current. the whiting and rockling were small and i'm sure I only caught them because of the smaller hooks, size 1. I think its a shore rockling but maybe someone could identify it before i add the species to my list for 08

good man eyesreilly.

glad to see the rain didn't put a total dampener on the session

good to get out all the same, at least you didn't blank well done.

the rockling looks like a 5 bearded to me these are more common on this venue nearly always guaranteed

thanks , john1. Having done some research, was that Harry with you and your son? If so , thanks to himself and yourself for the good advice re hook sizes etc, as I know thats what saved me from the blank. Some other guys arrived after you left but they blanked. I'll take your id as a 5 bearded rockling and add it to my species list. Thanks again ,Dave
