Arklow, South Beach : 13-01-08

#1 Post by MAC »

People: On me Tod

Duration: 5pm until about 10

Tide: No idea

Weather: Windy to start and clamed as the session went on

Bait: Lug, frozen black, Frozen Crab, Sandeel & Mack

Rigs: 3 hook clipped & 3 Hook flappers all with size 1's

Results: 4 Codlin all about the 30cm mark. One Codling at 46cm :D 8 Whiting, 4 Dabs & 3 Flounder

Report: A spur of the moment thing this one. I was pi$$ed off being in the house over the weekend with all the shite weather. Decided that I'd try for a codling after the southerly on Saturday night... I gave Dave Tilly a bell and he had some Lug so after a stop over at at his place I was on my way. I decided to give the south beach, Arklow a bash. I was worried about the amount of fresh water leaving the river... but it's an easy enough place to fish with not too much of a walk involved.

I started off about half way between the pier and the rocks.. There was a lot off weed and leaves in the water that were snaggin the shock leader knot.. After nothing for 2 hours I decided to move close towards the peir.

First cast saw a couple of Whiting and there were regular nods on the rod tip from then onwards. About 9pm I had a nice bite which resulted in the 46cm cod... Cod was caught on lug tipped with mack. Hung around for a little while longer incase there was another about. About 9:20 the flats came on the feed big time. I was getting double shots for the next few casts until I decided to pack up...

All in all a decent session for a spur of the moment thing.

Kev

Sounds like a good session :d , interesting you got them all on small hooks. Just like the advice i was given recently as i kept missing bites.

Well done there Mac, nice fishing. You were brave to get out in that weather. Couldn't face it myself.

Cheers lads,

I was really pleased considering the first 2 hours didn't produce a bite and I was considering calling it a night. I have a pic of the 46cm Cod, I'll pop it up as soon as I get a chance. Thanks god for beach buddies, thats all I can say. Kept the wind and rain off the back, which made it feel quite nice  I don't know how I managed without one...
