Easy rig clipping to your main line

#1 Post by Conor P »

I usually tie a swivel weight clip to my main line so I can attach my rig quickly and get fishing. It does not need removed because I carefully pull it through my rod rings. It helps when there is a loop at the top of the rig.

Yip a handy tip alright Conor, just make sure it's a good strong swivel, or use a Gemini lead link instead. Careful if you're winding down through the eyes though. More eyes are cracked by swivels being wound downthrough the rings.

I tend to put my shockleader on and then a bead and then a swivel, then I use a fast link on all of my pretied rigs to attach them to the swivel quickly.
I tend to cut the bead and swivel off at the end of a session. I reuse shockleaders when I can and then just put a new bead and swivel on them at the start of a session.

i do it the opposite way to Eoin. i tie a gemini fastlink to my shockleader and on my rigs i have a swivel.

i will only use gemini fastlinks for this as they are very low-profile and they dont unclip or open under pressure.

I think you do it the cheaper way Alex, that way you only need a swivel per rig, and a fastlink per leader, I was thinking about changing to that method due to the expense of the fast links.
With a 4 month old baby in the house, am not getting much fishing in recently though :(
Gonna have to get out more this year.

Thats the way I do it too...in the event you should be fishing in that horrible thin grassy weed that takes ages to pull off....you need only cut the link off (easy to keep hold of than a swivel and doesnt damage as easy) and slide the weed off then re'tie the link back on to the leader.

btw....IMHO the Genini fast link is the best link on the market :)

i tie a GEMMI link onto the shock, but have a small length of tubing to slide down over the link, protects the rings when winding in the shock, and i think it helps stop weed catching on the link.

i always tie a gemini link, number 2 in toms pic, onto the shockleader. fits through the eyes of the rod easy and saves having to retie it every trip. which saves me all of 30 seconds or so.

i used to use them daithi but found that they were prone to releasing the rig in a big swell. also the top snood had a habit of getting tangled in the clip.

much prefer the heavier fast links, # 10. as im not sure about the strength of the lighter ones (#11)

use a rubber bead above the link swivel to prevent the swivel cracking the tip ring.

i use a swivel at the top of my traces so that doesn't happen, the only time they released a rig on me is if i had a loop tied at the top of the trace instead of a swivel. and its rare the day i tie my traces like that

also use swivels (well most of the time anyway) and found when i used those clips that it was more prone to opening. i suppose the chance of it happening was minimal- couple of times a year- but id rather not have it happen at all, especially in a competition
