Kilkeel Co.Down 05/01/08
People: Me
Duration: 19.30 to 23.30
Tide: 21.30
Weather: 20SWS clear sky
Bait: Mackerel, Sand eel
Rigs: 1 hookclipped down
Results: 11 Codling, 2 Coalie & 1 Whiting
Report: I have been wanting to have a bash for Cod from the shore for along time now and was considering driving down to Wicklow, with the recent weather we've been having I thought the conditions would be favourable so I opted to try a totally virigin mark 4.5 miles from home which to my knowledge has never been fished during the winter months.
I wasn't really expecting to catch as this was my first shore session in over 10years but it wasn't long until I got the shock of my life, my rod tip started to bounce. Keeping the rod tip high over the surf I realled in with anticipation hoping that it was a whiting but I was surprised to see a codling of about 3lb - result. Every cast then turned into a bite apart from about 40 min over high water, unfortuantely I had to leave in full swing as I run out of Mackerel for some reason I only brought two and left the other hundred odd in the freezer, teh sand eel never landed a fish although it was getting chowed. I estimate the biggest fish to be just over 4lbs but god know's what size of a fish could come out of this mark.
Plan on fishing it tomorrow evening again with a three hook flapper and plenty of bait, it will have calmed slightly by then making fishing more comfortable. A really good introduction back to shore fishing, blessed to have it right on my door step.

Robert?? I haven't been called that in a while, do I know you Dave.
I've never even heard of KK SAC which surprises me considering the amount of fishing that I do, I'm sure our paths have crossed in the past some where along the way.

I know who you are now Dave just trawled through some of your posts, thanks for the offer but I'm on a species hunt I'm really just passing through.
Good luck with the club though this area could do with it, there is plenty of good fishing to be had on our shores if people are prepaired to put in the effort.
